FAQ - frequently asked questions
What tire should I get?
We recommend you stay as close to stock as possible with size and speed rating and look at the tire fitment charts by Brand in the right hand column on the Tire page.
Which exhaust should I get?
We recommend you look at our list of exhausts by model page and go with looks best to you and is in your budget. Then if you have questions please give us a call.
How loud is this exhaust?
It depends on the muffler and the rpm, we do not have a decibel listing for our exhausts. We have to go off muffler type not personal perception, what is loud to you may not be loud to us and vice versa. Most exhausts will be louder than stock with drag pipes and straight through exhausts being the loudest. Exhausts with race baffles, the baffles removed or no baffles will be even louder. Exhausts with enlarged mufflers will be quieter and nothing is as quiet as stock. The rpm you ride at will have a lot to do with it, the higher the rpm the higher the decibels.
Do I need to re-jet or adjust my fuel injection?
In general the answer is yes any time you change your stock exhaust, and especially if you change to a high flow air cleaner. There are many variables altitude, temperature, and most importantly which exhaust and/or air cleaner you put on to accurately answer this. Any time you change your exhaust and/or air cleaner you should be prepared to re-jet to correct for any lean condition that is created. This lean condition will cause side effects like hesitations under acceleration or back fires under deceleration which are corrected by re-jetting. Most jet kits and fuel injection programmers are meant to richen bike and correct for this condition. Brand specific products such as Vance & Hines and Cobra may offer a kit with additional information for their model exhausts, but not always. Drag pipes or exhausts without enlarged mufflers, no baffles or straight through exhaust are usually the loudest and have the least back pressure and require jetting, even slip-ons. Exhausts with enlarged mufflers, while usually still louder than stock are not as loud as drag pipes and do have some back pressure and may be the rare exception and not require jetting.
Can I install a jet kit?
Take a look at the directions and if you are comfortable removing your carburetors, taking them apart and putting them back on then you probably can, otherwise we recommend you a have a professional do it, preferably one with a Dyno machine that can perform this and provide you with before and after print outs. If not, any knowledgeable, experienced motorcycle mechanic should be able to install a jet kit.
